The Audi 90 quattro Racing flourished at American races in 1989. With a 2.2-liter inline-5 turbo engine capable of over 700hp, the 4WD quattro system gave it superior traction. Wider than the road car, its body had a large rear wing, and carbon and aluminum were largely used for its light weight panels.
